... and in public response to
blueheron's apt suggestion of sending a personalised fax, which can also be done through the internet here:
http://www.fraserfriends.org/?lang=en&page=faxFor any and all who help in sending a personal message to Mayor Tremblay requesting that the City of Montreal help to keep the doors of the Fraser-Hickson open (hell, they can afford to spend millions on changing the name of Parc Avenue after a politician who already has a major street named him, despite the fact that no one wants him to), I will donate a further $10 to charity of your choice. All you have to do is reply to this post with a nod and a suggestion as to which charity.
Current tally: $80 <-- mere chumpchange! Trust me, I can afford more!
Come on guys!!! Get off your butts and help the community! The Fraser-Hickson is open to anyone who wants to become a member. Unlike most other libraries in Quebec, you don't need to be a resident of a certain borough or suburb. Her very foundations were built on the principle of knowledge and wisdom offered and available to anyone who wants it. Until last year, she was completely self-funded. But after 120 years of giving to her community, she needs our help. If you believe in the principle of free education, if you believe in term "open source", and the ideology of "ubuntu", this is an Institute you want to help save from collapse.
I'd also like to take the time to say to my mates: if any of you send through a fax and/or sign the petition, please take the time to let me know. Don't feel sheepish about suggesting a charity, or feeling guilty or apprehensive of my spending the money. If the total amount becomes very high, I will make the donations in batches, and trust me when I say that it feels orgasmatastic to give. It's my pleasure to donate. In fact, it will help me beat last year's New Year's resolution to donate at least $1000 to charity by the end of the year! See? Everyone wins!!
PS: Please feel free to link this and my last post to whatever communities you feel may want to jump on board!
